Battle of the Mascaras: Diorshow vs. Roller Lash vs. Upward Lash vs. Great Lash

Hello Beauties! Today’s post is a bit different than the norm but I promise it will be fun! I’ll be comparing four (4) mascaras: Dior’s Diorshow, Benefit’s Roller Lash, MAC’s Upward Lash, and Maybelline’s Great Lash. I’ll then choose a winner and also ask you to let me know which one YOU think is the best and should be the winner of this battle.

If you know anything about me, you know I love the color pink and you know my #1 must have makeup product is mascara. If I wear no other cosmetic product, I’ll at least want to wear mascara (oh and a lip product – but this is about mascaras right now!) These 4 mascaras are currently my favorite mascaras, but as our favorite cosmetics companies release the next best mascara, this list is subject to change 😉

Three of these mascaras are priced in the upper to lower $20 range and then you have the drugstore brand I threw in here which is priced at around $5.99, depending on where you buy it. You may think that it’s not fair to compare a drugstore brand mascara to higher-end ones but Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara has been my go-to mascara for many years so there’s a very good reason why it’s comparable to these other ones.

As you know, there are a ton of mascara products on the market. There are mascaras that provide conditioning to your lashes, extra length, volume, separation, thickening, curl, or a combination of these features. If you are thinking of buying any of these mascaras, I will say that you can’t go wrong with any of these four right here. It all depends on what you want to accomplish as each of these are unique in their own way.

OK – let’s get started!

First up is the Diorshow Mascara by Dior in the 090 Pro Black color ($27.50 at Sephora for the full size; mine is a sample size).

Diorshow Picture

What it is and What it does: A renewed version of the classic Dior Backstage mascara featuring a formula enriched with microfibers which reproduce the effect of lash extensions. It also has a patented Air-Lock™ wiper system which keeps the mascara from drying in the tube. This mascara claims to lengthen, thicken without clumping, and provide buildable volume and coverage. It is currently available in four colors: black, brown, purple and blue.

Here’s how the Diorshow Mascara looks on me after several applications (no eyelash curler was used):

Verdict: What’s not to love about this mascara?! It honestly does everything it claims to do on my lashes and it even smells nice. No clumping, and super length with slight curl. Don’t my lashes look like I’ve got extensions? Awesome!

Next up is the Roller Lash Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics in Ink Black ($24 at Ulta).

Benefit Roller Lash Picture

What it is and What it does: A mascara inspired by hair rollers, this super-curling and lifting mascara gives a sexy, wide-eyed look. Its Hook ‘n’ Roll brush features tiny hooks to catch, lift, and curl your lashes. This mascara claims to lift and curl your eyelashes without needing an eyelash curler. The formula claims to hold for 12 hours, is easy to remove, and contains provitamin B5 and serine for lash-conditioning benefits. It is currently available in only one color: black.

Here’s how the Roller Lash Mascara looks on me after several applications (no eyelash curler was used):

Verdict: This mascara does everything it claims to do on my lashes. There is minor clumping but it’s not too bad. My lashes are super curled so I do not need a curler and my lashes feel conditioned after I take the product off. It really is a fabulous mascara!

Let’s now take a look at the Upward Lash Mascara by MAC in Upward Black ($22 at MAC).

MAC Upward Lash Picture

What it is and What it Does: MAC’s newly released mascara has a moulded brush with a hollow center which retains a large volume of mascara. This mascara claims to provide dramatic lift, length, volume, and curl. It has a super compact brush which is smaller than your average brush so be careful not to poke your eyes! It is currently available in only one color: black.

Here’s how the Upward Lash Mascara looks on me after several applications (no eyelash curler was used):

Verdict: I would say this mascara does most of what it claims to do. It does separate my lashes nicely and provides a glossy, black finish but I don’t think it provides the super length and curl it claims. My eyes are on the smaller size so the small brush works great for me.

And last, but certainly not least, is the Great Lash Lots of Lashes Mascara by Maybelline in the Blackest Black color (5.99 at Ulta).

Maybelline Great Lash Picture

What it is and What it Does: The little grabber heart shaped brush easily reaches all lashes, even in the corners, for a voluminous lash look without the clumps. This mascara claims to provide lots of buildable volume, no clumps and no mess. It is currently available in three colors: very black, blackest black, and brownish black.

Here’s how the Great Lash Mascara looks on me after several applications (no eyelash curler was used):

Verdict: This mascara has cute packaging, is very affordable and you can virtually find it anywhere cosmetics are sold. There is minor clumping and not as much curl as some of the others. As mentioned, I have been using this baby for many years so I do like it. But, I feel like my lashes are all over the place with this one so believe it looks best when used with an eyelash curler.

********************************

OK – now it’s time to choose a winner. The winner of this Battle of the Mascaras is….

Mascara Winner

Roller Lash!!! Congratulations Benefit Cosmetics for making a fabulous mascara! This one is simply the best for me because it provides everything I’m looking for in a mascara, creating the most dramatic look.

Now, I’d like to hear from you lovelies, which one of these mascaras knocks you out? Knock Out

********************************

*Mascara Tip: to prevent mascara smudge under your eyes, use a waterproof mascara on your lower lashes instead of regular mascara.

    1. Honestly I was torn between Diorshow & Roller Lash when I had to choose a winner :). They’re both pretty awesome in my opinion. All of these are great but there’s just something about that roller lash – it really does it all for me.

    1. Thank you love!!! I saw some mini roller lash’s at sephora the other day. They would be perfect if anyone wanted to try. I wish you could buy more makeup that way so you don’t feel like you paid too much for something you don’t end up liking xxx 🙂

  1. The Diorshow mascara is soo good but I rarely find people who like it as much as I do haha 😀 I’m glad it’s being more appreciated!

  2. Benefit’s They’re Real was my #1 until Roller Lash came along. I haven’t tried any of the other choices. I agree with you about mascara in general…even if it’s a #nomakeup day, I still have my Roller Lash on.
