Primpin ain’t easy…No it ain’t! Especially if you’re into false lashes. I’m lucky enough to have full lashes and with the right mascara, I can easily achieve the look of false lashes. One of these days I’ll try falsies out for fun but normally, I curl my own lashes and use this Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara for major drama. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

Last year, I did a post called Battle of the Mascaras. I compared four of my favorite mascaras at the time – from a drug store brand to higher end brands. The winner of that battle was the Roller Lash Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics ($24 at Ulta). Roller Lash is still one of my favorite mascaras because I never need to use an eyelash curler. It catches, lifts, and curls my lashes like a dream.

Since then, I received a sample of the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara and went through it faster than a speeding ticket! I purchased the full size ($26 at Sephora) and just can’t get enough of it.

The brush is a bit curvy so it places the right amount of product on your lashes, especially on those hard to reach places.

This shade (Noir) is the blackest-black I’ve ever seen. With just one swipe of the mascara on the back of my hand, you get the most intense black color.

The formula is smudge-proof (not waterproof), and claims to provide length and volume in three strokes or less. With just three strokes, this mascara provides the greatest length and the thickest lashes than any other mascara I own.

This mascara works optimally for me with an eyelash curler although you don’t need one to get great results. I do have fairly long lashes to begin with, so any mascara really does enhance them.

Verdict: The formula on this mascara is bar-none the best for dramatic lashes. It doesn’t smudge, even on the lower lashes. I don’t have watery eyes so I don’t know how well it would hold up with watery eyes. I love the packaging and the octagon shape of the wand fits perfectly in my hand. Even though the brush catches all my lashes, my one very minor complaint is that the brush is a tad big for my small eyes. Regardless, I highly recommend the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara.

Tip: Apply mascara on your lower lashes first to avoid getting product on your eyelids. Otherwise your top lashes will smudge when you look down to apply.
