By now I’m sure you’ve all seen reviews on the newly released Urban Decay Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette. Honestly, I wasn’t going to buy this palette until I watched Stephanie Nicole’s YouTube review on it.  I didn’t see any uniqueness to this palette as I already own several similar shades.  But, when I learned that these are all brand new shades for Urban Decay and I saw how highly pigmented they were when Stephanie swatched them, I had to have it.  As great as this palette is, if you are not interested in spending $54 on it, don’t!  There is a dupe for this palette and its one you may already own.

Naked Heat Palette Review

Just to get this out of the way, I’m not sure I understand the logic behind Urban Decay’s marketing of this palette.  In my opinion, I don’t view this as a Summer palette.  I view this as a Fall palette.  There I said it!  Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the warm neutral shades on this palette.  I just don’t associate warm browns, burnt oranges, and rich siennas as Summer colors.

The Naked Heat palette comes with 12 new amber-hued neutral shades.  The finishes are either mattes, shimmers, or metallics.

All of the shades in this palette are highly pigmented so you don’t need to pack on much color on your lids to get the color payoff.  Two of the shades (“Ounce” & “Chaser”) are pretty much transparent on me because of my skin tone.  However, if you have fair skin, they may look more opaque.

What I love most about this palette is that all of the eyeshadows blend so effortlessly.  In addition, several of the shades can be used together as transition shades because all of the colors work extremely well together.

What I love least about this palette is that although you can create a start to finish look for daytime or nighttime, this palette is lacking a light shimmery shade for highlighting your brow or inner corner of your eyes.

The longevity of the eyeshadows when using a primer is about 8 hours.  After that, the eyeshadows started to crease on my lids.

Naked Heat vs. Morphe 35O (Dupe)

It wasn’t until I started playing with the Naked Heat palette that I realized I had another palette in my stash with similar colors in it.  Believe it or not, the original Morphe 35O (not the all-matte or all-shimmer version) is almost an exact dupe!

I put the Naked Heat palette alongside the Morphe 35O palette so you can see how the colors match. Except for the two shades marked with an “X”, both palettes contain very similar shades.

Here’s how those similar shades above swatched in natural daylight (I used a primer on my arm for the swatches).  Not much of a difference, right?

After seeing how similar both palettes swatched on my arm, I had to put it to the test and create an eye look using both of the palettes.

I used only Naked Heat eyeshadows on the left and used only Morphe 35O eyeshadows on the right.  I cheated a little bit by using a light shimmery shade from the Morphe palette on the inner corner of both my eyes.

Final Verdict

In my opinion, both of these palettes are similar enough that I can’t justify owning both. In addition, the quality of the Urban Decay and Morphe eyeshadows is virtually the same. As far as the shades go, even though both palettes have extremely similar shades, there are slight variances in color.  For example, you’ll notice that the darkest shade on my left eye (“ashes” from the Naked Heat palette) has more of a purple tone to it than the darkest shade on my right eye which has more of a brown tone to it.

Differences between both palettes:

• The Morphe 35O palette costs just $22.99 and the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette costs $54.00.
• Morphe 35O contains a total of 35 shades; Naked Heat contains a total of 12 shades.
• Naked Heat contains two shades “Scorched” (metallic deep red w/gold micro-shimmer) and “En Fuego” (burgundy matte) that are so unique.  I don’t have any other shades like these in my stash.
• Naked Heat contains a full-size mirror and double-ended brush; Morphe 35O does not.

While I’m happy with the Naked Heat palette in general, I wish I would have saved my money on another palette that’s more unique.  I would say that unless you really want those two shades from the Naked Heat palette that you can’t find matches for in the Morphe 35O palette, or you already own the Morphe 35O palette, you don’t need to run out and buy the Naked Heat palette.
